PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT POLICY
Phil & Jennie Gaglardi Academy

Rationale
As a learning institution, continuous professional development promotes the quality and depth of the society, improves effective learning in the classroom, and strengthens the well-being of employees.

Policy Statements

  • The focus of professional development will be consistent with the school’s vision/mission and support the strategic direction of both the Society and the Ministry of Education.
  • The emphasis will be on improving organizational effectiveness and the quality of teaching and learning for students.
  • All teaching staff, support staff, and administrators will have access to quality professional development opportunities.
    • Teachers have 3 three scheduled and one unscheduled Pro-D days each school year. The scheduled Pro-D days will focus on curriculum and assessment practices, supporting ACSI Island Day, and next year planning.
    • All employees are required to attend Monday morning collaboration meetings (Learning Hubs) with their assigned workgroups. The purpose of Learning Hubs is to explore cross-curricular opportunities, learn best practices from colleagues, and share ideas in the classroom.
    • Educational assistants, and administrative staff will have access to a minimum of one paid Pro-Day relevant to their work assignment.
  • Upon return from a professional development experience, employees are expected to disseminate good and successful practice that supports and improves the school, teaching, and learning. This is best accomplished in school Learning Hubs.
  • The school will support accreditation of the professional development of employees.
