Literacy Week is from Feb. 24-28. See below for the exciting schedule of each day's activities:
MONDAY: Literary Character dress-up day
TUESDAY: D.E.A.R. in the Dark - A Flashlight Friday inspired activity. Students bring a flashlight to school and meet in the gym for a blackout reading block. (Gym: 2:10-2:30 pm)
WEDNESDAY: Readers Theatre - A theatrical presentation of a Robert Munsch story for the primary grades. (Chapel: 1:00-1:20 pm)
THURSDAY: Book Expo - students can bring in books and trade them for an equal number of new-to-them books. (Chapel: 9:30 am-2:00 pm)
FRIDAY: Bookmark Contest - Winners for the bookmark contest are announced in afternoon chapel.
And throughout the week, our students will have the opportunity to participate in ongoing activities that also promote literacy plus are just really fun, such as:
- Poem In Your Pocket: At any time throughout the week, staff can stop a student and ask them for the poem in their pocket. If they produce one and recite it to you, you sign their poem. If they collect 10 signatures, they can turn in their poem for a prize.
- Make Your Mark Contest: Bookmark decorating contest is $2 per entry from Feb 18-27 and is a chance to win a Coles gift card. Judging takes place on Friday, Feb 28.
- Book Breaks: Join one teacher for 10 minutes every lunch hour to enjoy a read-aloud of one of their favourite picture books.
- Bonus Reading Days: Each day of Literacy Week is a bonus-reading day to help boost the tallies of Book Club members.
