On Thursday, May 9th, elementary and high school students met in four different matches to determine who was top of the heap in speech arts this year. Poems and prose by a variety of authors were shared as brave competitors took center stage. Judges Valerie MacDonald and Kymme Patrick had a difficult time awarding prizes as there was "an abundance of talent this year!" Students entertained the audience with powerful scripture passages, playful poems by Shel Silverstein and Jack Prelutsky, classic pieces by Emily Dickinson and Margaret Atwood, heroic tales of Casey at the Bat and timeless soliloquies from the master-hand of Shakespeare. When the dust settled 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards were presented to competitors within each class. Overall scores were then tallied and the same placings were awarded for primary, intermediate, junior high and senior high students. The final standings were as follows:
Primary Division (K-3)
- 1st place: Claire Farrant (grade 2)
- 2nd place: Mayelle Lavertu (grade 3)
- 3rd place: Isabella Allnutt (grade 2) and Sean Jones (grade 2)
Intermediate Division (Grades 4-7)
- 1st place: Eva Ball (grade 7) and Lillian Lee (grade 7)
- 2nd place: Hudson O’Brennan (grade 6)
- 3rd place: Sullivan O’Brennan (grade 5)
Junior High Division (Grades 8-9)
- 1st place: Kaileigh Jones (grade 8)
- 2nd place: Dana Phillips (grade 9)
- 3rd place: Bilen Pearl (grade 8)
Senior High Division (Grades 10-12)
- 1st place: Lewis Daws (grade 11)
- 2nd place: Ayla McCallum (grade 10)
- 3rd place: Aislinn Young (grade 10)
