Administrative Student Re-entry K-12
Rationale

- Re-establish routine and accountability.
1. Management of Class size
- Limit of ten children and two adults (Teacher & EA).
- Respects social distancing of 2 meters per student.
- Desks will be spaced 2 meters apart with 2 m taped perimeter.
- Returning students will be divided into family groups
- Two school session groups; Monday & Wednesday; Tuesday & Thursday
2. Ensuring Child & Staff Safety
- General Protocols
- no loitering or playing before or after school, please. Parents must proceed directly to the school or the parking lot.
- No non-personnel in the building until all children are in their classrooms. Non-staff adults will be restricted to the lobby area.
- Parents must report to the Administrative Office for any school-related business.
- A social distance of two meters must be maintained while on school property.
- Hand sanitizers must be used upon entry and exit of the building and classrooms.
- Children & Adults will frequently wash hands.
- If you are sick (staff, parents, and children), entry into the building is not permitted. Parents are asked to ensure that their children are free from colds, runny noses, coughs, and fever before arriving at school.
- Children will eat outside whenever the weather permits.
- Please, no microwaved food.
- Bring reading books (the library will be closed) and toys (K-5) from home.
- Students are to bring a personal drinking bottle as only the water refill function will be operational at this time.
- Arrival
- Staggered student arrival using different entrances (non-staff adults are not permitted to enter the building before 9 am and after 2:30 pm.
- Kindergarten enters via their own classroom entrance
- Grade 1 & 2/3 split enters East backdoor
- Grade 3 straight & 4 through the undercovered area
- Grade 5-7 enter through the main entrance
- Grade 8-12 enter through the main entrance with later start & end of the day.
- Before and after entering the facility
- Temperature: 37.5C or higher will not be permitted to enter.
- Hand sanitizer at the entrance door.
- Students proceed directly to the classroom (or first class if H/S).
- In the classroom
- Students to wash their hands in the classroom sink.
- K-7 students will collect their personal, sanitized bin and store their belongings (outdoor shoes, backpack, books, lunch, toys) under their desk. Students will remove their indoor shoes from their bin to wear while at school. Shoes at this time will be indoor running shoes.
- High School students will keep their backpacks with them and on the floor.
- During the day
- Sharing belongings, school supplies (ie scissors, crayons, calculators etc) and PE equipment between students is prohibited.
- Teachers & students will maintain a 2 m distance. If closer student contact is required, then a mask must be worn by the adult.
- Teachers will handwash hands before touching student personal belongings.
- Hand sanitizing ie required before entering and exiting classrooms if the handwashing sink is not immediately available.
- Additional handwashing is required
- After playing outside.
- After sneezing or coughing into hands.
- Snack & Lunch will occur outside the building in prepared, sanitized areas.
- Snacks & lunches from home must not require heating or a microwave.
- Food sharing will not be permitted.
- A safe 2m distance will be maintained between students (K-3 students will eat inside hula-hoops for safe distancing)
- Students will hand wash before and after eating.
- Eating times will be staggered among grades.
- Physical Activity - no close contact activities or sharing of equipment. Daily activities for all students will be “COVID friendly”. PE uniforms will be in use for only grades 8-12.
- Lockers will not be used for high school students because they are a high-touch area. Students will carry their belongings from class-to-class. Band equipment will reside in the band room (grades 6-12).
- Washroom use
- Leave-on spray sanitizer ( > 60% alcohol) will be available in all washrooms.
- Maximum of two students in the washroom at one time.
- Students will wash their hands, go to their stall or urinal.
- When leaving their stall, students will
- Wash their hands
- Spray the “leave-on” sanitizer on
- Sink Taps
- Stall handle
- Toilet seat
- Flush handle
- Re-wash their hands
- Spray the “leave-on” sanitizer on sink taps & leave the washroom.
- School staff (EA’s or Admin) will check washroom every hour and spray handles with sanitizer. A log will be kept outside each washroom.
- Staff washrooms will be limited to one person at a time using the same procedure.
- Departure
- Students remove their personal, sanitized bin and remove their belongings and store any items (including indoor shoes) not returning home.
- Departure times will be staggered by grade.
- Hand washing is required before leaving the building.
- K-3 parents will not collect their children from the classroom at the end of the day but will retrieve them via the same exit where they entered in the morning.
3. Homework Club K-5
- Homework club will not be available after classroom dismissal.
4. Facility Plan to sterilize and sanitize the building.
- In addition to the regular janitorial routines,
- All desks, tables, chairs, and common surfaces will be sanitized at the end of each day.
- All electronics and keyboards at the end of each day.
- Outside/inside door handles will be sanitized regularly throughout the day.
- The school has all the disinfectant and sanitizing liquid that it requires until the end of August 2020.
5. Training and transition
- Staff
- Staff training sessions on new safety protocols before school opens.
- Emergency preparedness during COVID Phase Two.
- Staff familiarization of on-location PPE.
- Students
- Classroom instruction on the first day back.
- Monitoring of protocols by Admin staff.
- Retrain when necessary.
- Emotional Needs of staff and students
- During the first two weeks, the school counsellor will be on-site to support any student as needed.
- Pastors on-site during the first week of opening.
