LEARNING SUPPORT TEACHER JOB DESCRIPTION

Learning Support Teacher:
The learning support teacher provides school-based support services designed to support classroom teachers and their students. The learning resource teacher helps to organize, maintain and integrate special learning services to the school.
Core Responsibilities:
The learning support teacher is responsible for:
- in collaboration with the student resource team, review student needs and assist in problem-solving.
- Leading the implementation and writing of school IEP's.
- Assisting classroom teachers with assessment and evaluation of special needs students.
- Assist teachers with planning adaptations or modifications for special needs students.
- Providing direct instruction to special needs students as needed.
- Communicating with school faculty and parents.
- Supervising and evaluating EA staff.
- Scheduling classroom EA support.
- Elementary curriculum advisor.
- Testing of students as required.
- Overseeing and evaluating Gaglardi Academy's special or learning needs programs such as numeracy and literacy groups, sensory programs, social development/thinking programs (ie Zones of Regulation, WITS, Growth Mindset).
Expected Hours of Work:
Monday to Friday 35 hours per week during all instructional days, plus Professional Development Days, Administrative days before the start of school and at the end of the school year.
Minimum Education Required:
Valid BC Professional Teachers Certificate with an emphasis on special education, development of children with learning disabilities, and assessment practices concerning a broad spectrum of learning needs.
